Our Whole Lives

At First Universalists, all congregants are encouraged to be accepting of gender diversity.

Our Whole Lives is a comprehensive sex education program developed by the Unitarian Universalist Association and the United Church of Christ that has curriculum for youth in kindergarten all the way to adulthood. This progressive curriculum has been used in many UU and UCC churches across the country as well as in progressive Jewish synagogues and has been adapted in many forms, including the FemSex class offered at Carleton College each spring. At First Universalist, the class is taught in 5th and 8th grade, with the 8th grade program being well established, and the 5th grade program in its first year. According to the UUA website, “hoenst, accurate information about sexuality changes lives. It dismantles stereotypes and assumptions, builds self-acceptance and self-esteem, fosters healthy relationships, improves decision making, and has the potential to save lives”.1
