Weekly Meditation Sits
The center offers meditation sessions from 5:30 to 6:00 PM, Monday through Friday. Attendance at these weekday sits is not huge, but it is consistent. On the weekends, the NBMC offers a brief orientation at to meditation and the center for beginners (9:00 AM), and hold a 30 minute sit afterwards (9:30 to 10:00 AM). These silent “sits” are open to anyone interested in meditating, whether Buddhist or not, experienced or not.
“. . . I. . . have come to great appreciation for the fact that the space exists for the community. And I’ve noticed that people pop in and out; that people will come, and they might come regularly for a week, or a month, or several months, and then disappear, and it obviously met a need for them at one time. Or people will show up every few weeks, but the fact that that space is there, six days a week it’s open for meditation, for 17 years, is really, I think, quite meaningful. . .”
