Celebrations and Holidays
The point is that a true holiday is a celebration of God’s love for Soul. A holiday, then is any gathering, even a birthday party, that is our thank-you to Sugmad (God) and ECK (Holy Spirit) for the gift of life. —Klemp
Like many other religions, Eckankar has a series of ceremonies and holidays that mark important and meaningful life stages and events during the year. Harold Klemp, in Youth Ask a Modern Prophet about Life, Love, and God, writes that, although Eckankar has holidays itself, “a culture or a society takes many years to develop its celebrations. Be open to holidays and festivals that are part of your society…The point is that a true holiday is a celebration of God’s love for Soul. A holiday, then is any gathering, even a birthday party, that is our thank-you to Sugmad (God) and ECK (Holy Spirit) for the gift of life. Make sure the holiday celebration is planned as a happy event. That day, be on your best behavior. It’s an ideal day to practice joy, good humor, laughter, and song. Life is a moveable feast. It depends neither upon a set day nor season, but in your love for living. That love should reflect your humble love for God.” 1
