What is Muslim American Society of Minnesota?
Various groups -- Somalis, Arabs, South Asians, African Americans, Caucasians, and etc. -- find space within the Muslim American Society of Minnesota (MAS-MN) to create the sense of the ‘Muslim Community’ here in Minnesota. “MAS-MN is an Islamic revival and reform movement that uplifts the individual, the family, and society.” The mission is accomplished through the range of programs the organization provides, from religious to youth-based to social services. MAS-MN owns and operates three main masjids1 . in Minnesota: in St. Paul, Blaine, and Rosemount. MAS-MN serves as an organization for the Muslim community, by the Muslim community through the social services, youth programs, and Islamic education programs. Some of the events held by MAS-MN are Muslim Day at the Capitol, Family Camp, monthly Qiyams2 ., food banks, and much more.
Shifting gears to the social services provided by the organization, “MAS-MN provides social services such as clinic and food shelves. It is a leader in interfaith dialogue. One program geared towards interfaith dialogue is Taking Heart Iftar, which MAS-MN co-created.
