Other Programs
LWCC has many programs that reach into the broader state-wide and nation-wide arena. Locally, pastoral care is offered both for members and non-members (priority given to members) and LWCC pastoral staff offers a variety of counseling and individual outreach services. LWCC has twenty-five small groups for discussion, education, and community, ranging from marriage workshops and women’s book clubs to seminars about “manhood” and discussions about retired life. LWCC also has several intramural-type sports teams. Part of the mission of LWCC, as described to me by a volunteer in the Visitor Center, is to make a large church feel simultaneously large and intimate. The small groups, a field for which LWCC has a team of pastors as administrators, seem to be widely publicized and attended.
Nationally, LWCC is involved in Project Angelfood, which collects and delivers food items to those in need in 35 states. LWCC also promotes the Olive Tree Bond, a national organization headed by Living Word Pastor Lynn Hammond. The Olive Tree Bond provides the opportunity for church members to purchase an olive tree to be planted in Israel, specifically in Megiddo, in the lower valley, “a prime location due to its significant biblical role.”1
