Abubakar As-Saddique Islamic Center
The exterior architecture of the Abubakar As-Saddique mosque (called a masjid in Arabic) is currently somewhat nondescript. It is located in a single-story brick building, with only a small sign to identify it as a religious site. The building is located in a neighborhood with a mix of industrial buildings and houses.
Many members of the Somali Muslim community in Faribault hope to see the building remodeled to resemble the beauty of mosques they've visited in the Islamic world. The public expression of Islam is especially important in Faribault, a primarily Christian community. Hopes for a more impressive building could be realized in the near future, as the community has been saving money to purchase a vacant church building.
The attendees of the Faribault masjid are primarily from the Somali Muslim community of Faribault. Nonetheless, the mosque is explicitly welcoming of all people. Although there have been incidents of racist and Islamophobic harassment, the hospitality of the Somali Muslim community has largely been reciprocated by the wider community of Faribault.
